Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda And Tanzania Joins Hands Against Plastic Pollution

Single-use plastic is the kind of polymer product that is immediately disposed off after use. These include polythene bags, disposable cups, disposal plates, disposal plates, among several other disposal items. These items are a top menace when it comes to towns and city waste. They clog streams as well as being a danger to any ecosytem.

The four most popular East African safari destinations have joined hands to fight against plastic pollution. This is going to be achieved by advocating against all single-use plastics in the East African community. The campaign has also been supported by a number of organizations including the Global initiative for environment and reconciliation, Bio vision Africa, Center for environmental justice and development, and Nipe Fagio.

In Tanzania, they launched a campaign termed “Nipe Fagio” which can be translated as “give me the broom” as an awareness tool for promoting sustainable development in Tanzania.

East African countries banned the use of single-use plastics unfortunately Uganda is lagging behind all the four countries. Rwanda has registered the most significant success in the ban of single-use plastics while Kenya and Tanzania are making their progress too steadily. Among the four countries, Kenya has the highest penalty for non-compliance but it has not yet given it success equivalent to that of Rwanda

Even though there is a window of recycling all the plastic waste, it is also still ineffective in countries like Uganda which have registered minimal success in the ban of single-use plastics.
