After a diplomatic visit of the first son of Uganda; Muhoozi Kainerugaba to the republic of Rwanda on the 22nd of January 2022 where the president of Rwanda Paul Kagame and the commander of Uganda land forces talked about the relationship of the two countries; the government of Rwanda through the ministry of foreign affairs has issued a press release notifying the public that Land borders of Uganda and Rwanda will be open again come 31st January 2022.
After a number of failed diplomatic engagements between the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Paul Kagame of Rwanda, the son to the president of Uganda has been able to bridge the gap.
The president of Rwanda was quoted in a few interviews citing Museveni as a bully in the East African community. Without one of the two humbling themselves under the other, it seems like there was no way forward to solving the conflict.
Before the diplomatic visit, the first son Muhoozi Kainerugaba first paid respect to Paul Kagame as a Senior Citizen that he accords a lot of respect. By the time the diplomatic visit happened, Muhoozi had positioned himself into an inferior position making it possible to start having proper conversations on the way forward.
At the end of his diplomatic visit to Rwanda, he was able to return with one SFC soldier that had been held in Rwanda’s custody for some time. Barely a week after his diplomatic visit, Rwanda has reconsidered opening its borders with Uganda once again.
