Jinja to Host Sports Tourism Gala

tourism-galaUGANDA – Uganda Tourism Board has joined effort with Sports Tourism International to develop sports tourism in Uganda. The partnership will see the two entities organizing sports tourism around the nation beginning with the Source of the Nile Corporate challenge which is expected to commence on the 28th-30th August in Jinja. Tending to news conference at Uganda Tourism Board offices in Kampala the Uganda Tourism Board boss Stephen Asiimwe said for long time Uganda’s Tourism has been based on only natural resources and wildlife.

“We have to diversify the tourism industry by bringing introducing new tourism products, for example, sports tourism which has been started by Sports Tourism International by diversifying the industry, the Government and private sector earning is expected to develop,” Asiimwe said.

Cuthbert Baguma the lead specialist for Sports Tourism International said if the product is developed well it will give a chance to the hospitality Industry, for example, Hotels plus promoting International relationship between the participating countries as it is in developed nations mainly in Europe.

The Jinja sports Tourism festival is expected to be host more than 100 corporate teams.

The members will include corporate from Uganda and the East African Community (EAC) nations, Nigeria, Egypt and Ethiopia. Some of the activities on those two days incorporate Birding race, a swimming gala, football and netball among different sports activities.
